consultant 與 contractor 的區別

在 Embedded Muse 204 Copyright 2011 TGG February 22, 2011 (The Ganssle Group) 內看到一段話談到consultant與contractor的區別，因為角色與價值之差異，mindset也不同。

[At the risk of sounding like a jerk, I wonder if you do/will make a distinction between a "consultant" and a "contractor". It's not about title or prestige, it's about role and value. A consultant should bring extraordinary insight, value, and mentoring/teaching skills to the table. He/she should leave the group, not just the code/project, in a better state.]

太陽底下果然沒什新鮮事

A蹙著眉頭，似乎在思考著下一步該如何做，看的出來是很煩惱的。

我啜一口7-11的黑咖啡，有些苦，聽著故事。

「不知道怎麼辦，這傢伙會弄來一堆事，做一半或是起個頭，卻沒有結論，也沒有下一步，停在那兒，告訴你沒辦法了。」

「要不跑來問你，下一步該做些什麼，嗐，做一半的事情，問我怎麼辦，如果是這樣，那我自己來不就好了。」

「搞不懂，這傢伙的想法總是天馬行空，又常常跳躍式的改變，簡直是浪費我的時間。」

我勸A：「既然如此，就只能要他做些 follow-up 的事，這樣的mindset及能力也許跟他過去的經驗有關吧。還是說此君真有能力，只是擺錯位子罷了。」

A搖著頭，苦笑著。

我喝著咖啡，心想，果然太陽底下沒什新鮮事！
